Mike Burke
Mineral Services Division Manager- Yukon Geological Survey

Mike graduated from the University of British Columbia in 1987.  He has worked since 1983 in the mineral exploration and mining industry in British Columbia and Yukon. He was fortunate to be part of the exploration team which discovered the Sa Dena Hes lead-zinc mine and the Ketza River Gold Mine in Yukon. Mike continued working at the Ketza River Gold Mine from exploration through mine development, production and closure as the Mine Geologist before joining the Yukon Geological Survey in 1990.

Mike manages the Mineral Services Division of the Yukon Geological Survey which includes Yukon Minfile database, Placer geology, Yukon Mining Incentive Program and the H.S. Bostock Core Library while maintaining his role liaising with mining and exploration companies, visiting active exploration sites, authoring the annual Yukon Mining, Development and Exploration Overview and presenting information on Yukon at various meetings and conferences.

David Coffin
Co-founder and Editor of the HRA Newsletter Service

David is the “rocks side” of HRA, and has been active in mining exploration for over 30 years in roles spanning prospecting through feasibility studies, and now markets commentary. David Coffin founded, with his brother Eric, the HRA newsletter service that deals with the mining and metals sectors in 1995. David, the “rocks side” of HRA, has been active in mining exploration for over 30 years in roles spanning prospecting through feasibility studies, and now markets commentary. David logs literally hundreds of thousands of miles every year, visiting exploration and development sites on six continents in order to bring back the real goods for HRA subscribers. They benefit not just from Dave’s seal of approval, but his outline of what he is seeing and where that might lead so that subscribers can fine-tune their own sector gauges. And a lot of serious market players take notice. David is a regular speaker at Cambridge House, the PDAC, the New Orleans Gold Show as well as other resource and commodity investment forums in North America and Europe, and has been interviewed numerous times on radio and TV and in third party news articles for his opinions on the sector and markets. HRA was one of the first, back in 2001, to call the current cycle as the secular trend others have only recently recognized. Since then fifteen HRA “picks” have been taken over in the ensuing boom market, half a dozen have successfully completed the shift from exploration to production and an equal number are closing on the that threshold. But HRA is not a cheerleader - numerous others have garnered gains for subscribers on profits taking calls, and despite a continued believe in the long term growth of the mining sector it has made several calls for general profits taking ahead of market corrections. HRA is opinion about developments and developers in the mining sector, on a considered, factual, and timely basis.

He was one of the first analysts (along with David) to point out the disastrous effects of gold hedging and gold loan capital financing (1997) and to predict the start of the current secular bull market in commodities based on the movement of the US Dollar (2001) and the acceleration of growth in Asia and India.

Ian Gordon
President, Longwave Analytics

The son of a British military officer, Ian followed in his Father’s footsteps and graduated from The Royal Military Academy at Sandhurst. He served as a Platoon Commander in the Cameronians (Scottish Rifles). Four years later in 1967 Ian immigrated to Canada where he entered the History Department at the University of Manitoba—a decision that has had a profound impact on his career to this day. It was during this period that he began to study the historical trends that ultimately provided the foundation for his Long Wave theory.

It wasn’t until 1983 that Ian entered the financial realm. He worked as a stock broker in Ontario for eight years before working in Management for three more years in Toronto and Vancouver. It was 1998 when Ian determined that the Long Wave Theory was too compelling to ignore any longer. He began writing the Long Wave Analyst and re-entered the sales side of the business. He accurately predicted the end of the massive equity bull market and also accurately predicted the beginnings of the current gold bull market. By 2003, Ian was the #1 performer at Canaccord Capital (Canada’s largest independent brokerage firm)—a position he maintained until he left the firm in late 2005.

The need to access further institutional investment, vital to supporting Ian’s financings prompted him to move his team to Bolder Investment Partners in late 2005. The move to Bolder proved very successful for Ian and his team, accelerating the momentum that had been gained at Canaccord previously. Ian served as a Vice President of Bolder for three years.

The Long Wave Theory, in addition to a keen sense of what constitutes a winning deal, has enabled Ian and his team to enjoy meteoric growth over the last decade. This success has enabled Ian to chart the course for the next leg of his journey.

The same Long Wave principles that have guided Ian for the last decade are just as relevant today as they were a decade ago. These principles very accurately predicted the collapse of the financial markets—a prediction that factored heavily into Ian’s investment strategies over the last decade. His focus now is the next decade. Ian is focussing his attention on using the same Long Wave principles to help define next steps for both institutional and retail investors.

The Long Wave Group, a company dedicated to this pursuit has been formed, and Ian, the Long Wave Analyst himself, is assuming the reins as Chairman. Ian’s experience and expertise, in addition to his infectious passion and enthusiasm, will serve as a guiding beacon for employees and clients alike.
